This addition to the Saison Rum range sees a selection of five-year-old rum, distilled and aged in Trinidad, shipped to France for blending and finishing. Cognac master Jérôme Tessendier applies the same skills learned in his career in Cognac to blend the rum, with the aim of showcasing the terroir and character of Trinidad. The blend is treated to a stay in medium-grain French oak barrels, before finishing its seven year maturation in fine-grain French oak barrels, resulting in a superbly complex and characterful sipper, with generous layers of elegant char and spice.

Nose: Notes of dark chocolate, molasses, espresso and spice.

Palate: A very complex and well-structured.

Finish: A long and smooth finish.

Distillery Information

Distillerie Tessendier & Fils was founded in 1950 and today is run by brothers Jérôme and Lilian Tessendier, master blender and cellar master. Together they oversee a brand that creates its own lines of Cognac and more, as well as sourcing and ageing rum. To make the Cognac, Distillerie Tessendier & Fils grows its own grapes, experiments with fermentation techniques, ages its spirits in locally sourced barrels, and bottles on-site. The brand uses six pot stills and owns 14 cellars located locally, with a stock capacity of 12 million litres, including 20,000 French oak barrels. Below is a great range of Cognacs, which includes the traditional VS to more innovative creations like mizunara-finished expressions. There’s also Saison Rum which boasts traditional rums (pale, original, reserve, and XO) to cask finished options and blends including triple cask Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad.
