An artisanal mezcal made at a historical hacienda, situated in the heart of the plateau within the state of San Luis Potosi. Double distilled in copper pots from a base of pure agave salmiana.

Introduced in 2017, this bottling from Mezcales de Leyenda uses agave salmiana coming from San Luis Potosí. The agaves are cooked in a clay oven for two days. After crushing, the juice and fibers are allowed open-fermentation in cement tanks for five days before double-distillation in a copper still. Made by Master Mezcalero Juan José Hernández, this unaged mezcal is bottled at 42% ABV.
Mezcales Leyenda San Luis Potosi Mezcal Tasting Notes
Nose: This fabulous spirit has a complex nose of celery salt, seawater, and tangerine zest.
Palate: The mineral flavors provide an excellent framework for tones of grilled pineapple and toasted jalapeño.
Finish: The finish has a bit of heat but lots of sweet fruit.
Distillery Information
Master mezcalero Juan Hernández Méndez and his wife Hortensia Hernández Martínez both come from multi-generation families of master mezcaleros. Taking into account their children Valente and Lidia, the youngest generation working in the family business, there has been at least five generations of mezcaleros on Hortensia’s side of the family, and four generations on Juan’s side.
