Flying Dutchman Rum 4 Year Old 2014 Single Cask (Private Label) | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Salted almonds and fragrant, almost floral cardamom, pine oil, and dried berries. Burnt sugar and suggestions of citronella follow in time.
Palate: Savoury cooking herbs and spices take the lead, with notes of earthy forest floor and drying oak. Caramel-soaked prunes and raisins poke through, with that sherried oak bringing nutty sweetness.
Finish: Resinous wood oil, root ginger, and cinnamon sweeties bring tingles of warmth to the finish. Notes of fresh leather, dried pineapple, drying oak, and bittersweet orange peels linger.
Distillery Information
Zuidam Distillers was founded by Fred van Zuidam in 1975, under the name Baarle International. He had previously taken care of production, purchasing and recipes at De Kuyper in Schiedam for around twenty years before he felt it was time to start his own company. He purchased a piece of land in Baarle Nassau and built his distillery there, motivated by an ambition to create quality Dutch liqueurs with only the use of second-hand boilers, a filling barrel and some tanks.
