Producer Information

Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd is a single malt whisky and gin distillery based in the town of Tarbert on the Isle of Harris, in Scotland’s remote Outer Hebrides island chain at the very north of the country. The distillery was established in 2015 by US-born musicologist and long-term Outer Hebrides resident, Anderson ‘Burr’ Bakewell. Bakewell, who owns the neighboring island of Scarp, established the distillery partly in a bid to halt population decline in the region. The distilling team was initially composed of former Diageo and Whyte & Mackay employees and the distillery, which lies on the shore at the very end of East Loch Tarbert, boasts nearly 40 full-time employees. A range of spirits are produced with Isle of Harris Gin is currently the flagship product. Given that single malt whisky production often requires a decade or more to establish aged expressions, the distillery’s whisky offering is primarily focused on The Hearach – the island’s first single malt, aged in former bourbon, oloroso and fino barrels.
