Description
Whiskey: Springbank Local Barley 9 Year Old Single Malt Scotch
It’s the fourth release in Springbank’s Local Barley series, and once again those distillers in Campbeltown have produced a cracking single malt! This one was made using optic barley from High Cattadale Farm, with the spirit matured in 80% bourbon casks and 20% sherry casks. It’s very impressive stuff.
Size: 750ML
Proof: 115.4 (57.7% ABV)
Age: 9 Year
Origin: United Kingdom
Distillery: Springbank Distillery
The 2018 release in Springbank’s Local Barley series – the fourth of the current crop – distilled from barley grown on the Mull of Kintyre near Campbeltown – specifically optic from High Cattadale Farm, fewer than 10 miles from the distillery. It’s matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks (80% bourbon), and balances the distillery’s farmy and funky character against cask sweetness and spice.
Springbank Local Barley 9 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes
Nose: Biscuit-y malt and freshly ground nutmeg, backed up by spicy peat and salted peanuts.
Palate: Waves of rich honey start things off, followed by more baking deliciousness in the shape of Victoria sponge. Rye crackers, apricot and quince. A good waft of toasty smoke brings it all together.
Finish: Macadamia nuts, pear, sultana and coastal air.
