Relaunched in 2016, this comes from Nikka’s excellent Yoichi distillery. This is a blend of single malts from different years and consequently does not carry an age statement. This is a smoky whisky with a maritime character.

The latest Yoichi single malt will replace both the previous NAS release and the remaining age statement whiskies. The change comes as demand continues to stretch Nikka’s aged stock, with this new Yoichi Single Malt (made of of whiskies of various ages) aimed at representing this special distillery’s direct-coal-heated, peated yet fruity style.

Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: Gentle peat smoke with dried citrus zest and fresh kindling.

Palate: Firm with smoke, melon, almonds, and a light salt.

Finish: Long, smooth, and herbal.

Distillery Information

The company operates a number of distilleries and other facilities in Japan, including two Japanese whisky distilleries, the Yoichi distillery in Yoichi, Hokkaido (established in 1934), and the Miyagikyo distillery in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Northern Honshu (established in 1969). It also owns the Ben Nevis Distillery (acquired in 1989) in Scotland.
