From the Double Cask range of dark rums produced for the New Grove selection comes an expression finished in casks made of Merisier wood. It was initially aged in oak for 7 years, before being moved over to the aforementioned Merisier wood (you may be more familiar with it under its other name – cherry wood) for a final year.
New Grove Double Cask Merisier Finish | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose holds aromas of gooseberries and caramel alongside the heady cherry sweetness.
Palate: The palate brings out a delicate apricot flavour surrounded by powerful, rich flavours of vanilla and toffee, and of course the cherry.
Finish: The finish is long. The wood persists in its intensity and brings a tannic (and very slightly bitter) sensation. In a second phase, roasted, vanilla and tobacco aromas dominate.
