An eye-catching 2013 relaunch for Campbeltown’s only distillery not owned and operated by Springbank. Glen Scotia’s house style is generally medium-full with wisps of smoke and brine, but this 10 year old is at the more boisterous strength of 46%, the same as Springbank. The distillery has had to suffer being in the shadow of its famous neighbour for many years now – one suspects that this image overhaul will certainly attract attention. Glen Scotia 10 Year Old was first released in 2012. It is an unpeated single malt whisky matured exclusively in bourbon barrels for quicker and consistent maturation, sourced to Loch Lomond cooperage’s specification.

Glen Scotia 10 Year Old Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: It opens slowly with aromas of sweet cereals, honeysuckle, green apple, vanilla wafer and sweet malt.

Palate: Light and fresh body, full of vitality, initial waves of lemon, pear and kiwi fruit followed by a nutty honey. The oils retained from not chill filtering coat the palate with the oak’s vanilla sweetness.

Finish: Light, gentle and smooth with faint hints of butter, almond and hazelnut. The perfect aperitif.
