Every now and then, Garrison Brothers release one of the most highly-coveted bourbon whiskies in America: Cowboy Bourbon. This was the American Whiskey of the Year in Jim Murray’s 2014 & 2017 Whisky Bibles. It’s the ultimate ambrosia. Unlike the Small Batch, The Cowboy comes from Dan and Donnis’ favorite barrels. They’re set aside for a couple of years for further maturation and the liquid is bottled at cask-strength, uncut and unfiltered.
Garrison Brothers Cowboy 2022 Bourbon Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Deceptive aroma of firewater, firewood, and freshly cut cedar
Palate: caramel candy, toasted figs, scorched molasses, toasted honey, plum jelly, creamy coffee liqueur, sugary cinnamon apple pie sugar, and crust
Finish: Gum puckering, tongue-numbing oily goodness. King-like Uber-bourbon
Distillery Information
Dan Garrison — an ex-marketing executive for a tech company — founded Garrison Bros. in 2008, after being laid off by a former employer. Garrison put a few investors and family members together and started selling product contracts from other distilleries. After a few years, they generated enough resources and market interest to officially launch a distillery in 2008, about 60 miles west of Austin in the tiny town of Hye, Texas.
