Description
Whiskey: Filibuster The Boondoggler Bourbon
“The Boondoggler” is a wholly different approach to blending. A Whiskey finished in five different types of casks is quite rare and has paid off quite well for Filibuster.

“The Boondoggler” is a wholly different approach to blending. It use various mash bill elements, including Corn, Barley & Rye and a wide selection of barrels to achieve a complex and flavorful Whiskey like nothing else out there. It proprietary aging method includes time in New American White oak, Red & White wine-seasoned French oak, and Fino & Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. “The Boondoggler” is neither a Bourbon or a Rye in the traditional sense, but combines elements of both for a one of a kind taste experience.
Filibuster The Boondoggler Bourbon Tasting Notes
Nose: Complex. Aromas of dried fruit (raisin, currant), cherry, caramel, light vanilla, and warm toast.
Palate: Simple and Sweet, high Rye notes of grain spice, cereal, and baking chocolate.
Finish: Balanced and warm, finishes quickly.
Distillery Information
Filibuster is a Virginia-based distillery that (ironically) started out as a blending house with no plans to distill. Then, I can only imagine the inexorable draw as the craft Whiskey industry sang its siren songand the company purchased a defunct apple processing plant in the Shenandoah valley, in Virginia, and began installing stills. As is the case with just about every other distillery or “distillery” opened this decade, the liquid is not quite ready to barrel yet. Best guess, they started distilling in 2017 so expect real Filibuster juice around about 2021.
