A very rare early bottling of the discontinued Compass Box Eleuthera from back when you could still call this a Vatted Malt. Compass Box Eleuthera, a now discontinued release, is a wonderful, smoky blend of malt whiskies. Typically it combined 15 year-old malt whisky from the village of Brora, aged in re-charred hogsheads. Also 12 year-old malt from the village of Port Askaig, Islay. Eleuthera the very first vatted malt released by Compass Box Whisky Company. While as of 22nd of November 2011 whiskies could no longer be labelled as Vatted Malts. Instead they had to name it Blended Malt Whisky. Jim Murray said of the first release: “Quite simply, one of the most complex and truly magnificent vatted malts of all time. A collector’s piece.” Sadly, when the 15 year-old malt from Brora became un-available aged in re-charred casks. Compass Box decided to retire “Eleuthera” rather than overhaul the recipe.
