Producer Information
Turnbull Wine Cellars is a family-owned producer located in Oakville of Napa Valley, California. Established in 1979 by William Turnbull, the wine portfolio focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards in Oakville and Calistoga. The flagship wine from Turnbull Wine Cellars is the Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon which is sourced from two different vineyards and blended after being vinified seperately. The line of Cabernet Sauvignons includes single-vineyard wines, sourced from vineyards owned by the company. All Cabernet is aged in 100-percent new French oak for an extensive period of time before bottling, making for rich and bold examples of the variety from Napa. In addition to the line of Cabernet, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Verdot and a few red blends are also produced. Turnbull have acquired four vineyard plots over the years. The Fortuna vineyards lies at the base of the Oakville bench with red, volcanic soils, giving the Cabernet Sauvignon dark fruit notes. Leopoldina sits higher up on the Oakville bench, with a rocky volcanic soil that gives fruit more tannins and structure. Meanwhile, the estate vineyard, while also in Oakville, is flat with clay and loam soils, providing a more red fruit profile. The Amoenus vineyard, north in the hills of Calistoga, sits at a higher elevation along the fog line, creating a cooler environment where the fruit has more acidity.
