Producer Information
After tasting the European way of life, Thornbury`s winemaker Simon Fell decided that a career in winemaking was the way to go. Returning to New Zealand he added to his Bachelor of Science degree by enrolling in a Wine Science Diploma at Tairawhiti Polytechnic in Gisborne. His desire to gain valuable work experience took him throughout New Zealand as well as the USA (Oregon), Australia and Bordeaux. In 2000, Simon took up a position at the famed Esk Valley where he learned from the iconic Gordon Russell and was infected by his enthusiasm for Hawke`s Bay wine. Simon then did another stint in France, Chile and the USA again (Napa Valley) returning in 2003 to work at Vidal Wines. In 2006, he took up position at Thornbury Wines and the rest as they sau, is history.
