Producer Information

Envinate is a high-profile, minimal-intervention wine producer making a range of wines from across western Spain, covering the Canary Islands, Galicia and the southeast. The company itself is based in La Roda, near Albacete in Castilla La Mancha. The label (which roughly transates as “wine yourself”) was established by four friends who studied winemaking at the University of Miguel Hernández de Elx in Elche, just west of Alicante, in southeast Spain. Following their studies, the four (Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos, and José Martínez) established a winemaking consultancy which then grew into their own brand: Envinate. Broadly, speaking, the four split their attentions between themselves, with Roberto Santana covering the Canary Islands (and, in particular, Tenerife), Alfonso Torrente taking Ribeira Sacra (Galicia), Laura Ramos in Murcia and José Martínez in Almansa. Wines cover a number of labels but, for the most part, “Envinate” is visible somewhere in the design. Often, the wines produced are a collaboration with local winegrowers – generally stated at the top of the label. Winemaking is generally very hands-off with minimal use of new oak and fermentation in the likes of concrete vessels or large-format oak tuns. Reds are often fermented with a significant portion of whole bunches and the wines are unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur additions.
