In the heart of Touraine, at a place called “La Piffaudière” Olivier Bellanger has been leading his Domaine La Piffaudière since 2008 , in Organic Farming (certified since 2012) of about ten hectares on the slopes of the Cher valley on the side of Monthou sur Cher and Thésée. Here, the great grape varieties of the region, Côt, Sauvignon, Gamay and Pineau d’Aunis, grow side by side on clayey or rather sandy soils depending on the area. A former student of Philippe Tessier in Cheverny, the artisan winemaker from Domaine La Piffaudière shows us, just like his neighbors from Domaine Sébastien David or La Grange Tiphaine, that the VDF (wines of France) are just as qualitative and gourmet as an appellation wine. Olivier Bellanger authorizes himself alongside the Touraine appellation wines whose respective grape varieties are Côt, Cabernet Franc and Gamay, to work with grape varieties such as Menu Pineau or Pineau d’Aunis, which are the basis of beautiful skittles and of which we are very fan in addition. Making “zero defect” wines is the leitmotif of Domaine La Piffaudière, which begins in the vineyard, with special care and work carried out in the most natural way possible, without synthetic phytosanitary products, by promoting grass between the rows and a rather classic cavaillon work. Then the harvest is of course manual and the assiduous work of Olivier Bellanger, who does not spare his efforts, continues in the cellar with little interventionist vinification carried out only with the help of indigenous yeasts, naturally present on the grapes. The macerations are rather short, which allows to keep a nice freshness and a very present fruit. All the wines are vinified without inputs except for low doses of sulphur; and present themselves in a light that is always joyful, dashing and above all, above all… very upright! The cuvées of Domaine La Piffaudière also have their own stories, its blend of Gamay and Pineau d’Aunis “Mon tout Rouge”, has a name suggested by its facebook community, as for the wonderful Sauvignon “Nuits blanches” which, in fact, gave a hard time going through a few sleepless nights. Do not forget his friendly wines, the “Pif” range, in its 100% Gamay, Sauvignon or Côt versions, fresh, expressive and gourmet canons to discover, to taste and then re-taste, and re-re- taste… One or two or six bottles of Domaine La Piffaudière will never be too much!
