Puilly Fuissé, Secret Minéral 2021 is straw yellow in color and shows high intensity, stony aromas of citrus, yellow apples, white peaches, white flowers, butter, and underlying minerality. In the taste, it unfolds as usual as authentic “big Burgundy”, where cool and yet full-bodied fruit is combined with a laser-sharp, Puligny-like acidity and a refreshing, stony finale that lasts for ages.
Producer Information
Denis Jeandeau was one of Burgundy’s young comets, who moved up at record speed among the very best producers in the Mâconnais. Unfortunately, Denis tragically passed away in the summer of 2023, before the world really opened its eyes to his exceptional wines. The wines have been found in some of the world’s top Michelin restaurants such as Pierre Gagnaire, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Per Se, and Gordon Ramsay. Denis Jeandeau made extremely limited quantities from small 5-ha limestone-rich vineyards in Viré-Clessé, Saint-Véran, and Pouilly-Fuissé. Although as a winemaker Denis was a young man, he cultivated and vinified the wines in an extremely old-fashioned way. Biodynamic principles – and plowing with the help of horses. The wine was then vinified in the traditional way with harvesting and selection by hand, natural fermentation, and aging with the yeast cells (lees) in a combination of steel and used barrels. In addition, very limited use of sulfur.
