Reviews:
- Vinous: The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a seductive blend of 85% Grenache, 5% Mourvèdre, 4% Bourboulenc, 3% Syrah and 3% Cinsaut. Aromas of rose water, wild strawberry, red cherry, raspberry and dried herbs usher this full-bodied, perfumed, rich and refined red. Velvety tannins and fresh acidity define this 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The savory finish goes on for well over a minute.
- James Suckling: This youthful 2020 Chateauneuf is enormously spicy, the red fruits character coming through more prominently on the generous and precisely contoured palate. Deep fine tannins are married to a delicate licorice and earthy character on the ample palate. Then comes the great wave of stony freshness at the extremely long finish.
Producer Information
Domaine de Ferrand is a producer in the southern Rhône with vineyards in both the appellations of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes-du-Rhône. Although the property is old, dating back to 1760, the formation of the domaine is reasonably new having been founded by Charles Bravay in 1960. The Domaine de Ferrand sites in Châteauneuf-du-Pape lie in the slightly cooler areas of the appellation, the soils are made up of the sand, clay and the round stones the region is famous for. The grapes grown are mostly Grenache with some Cinsault, Mouvedre and Syrah with some vines over a century old. The Côtes-du-Rhône sites are also used to produce red wines. All the vineyards are treated using organic methods and yields are kept small. The wines are then vinified in a mixture of concrete and stainless-steel tanks.
