Producer Information
Alta Orsa, located in the Hopland, CA tells the tale of the land and the dreams and vision of winemaker Martin Bernal Hafner. Martin, who took over the stewardship of this 160 acre of Alta Orsa estate in Mendocino County in 2018, has been growing the vines in this organically farmed land of the late 1980s. The winery creates estate wines that are truly unique, balanced, and age-worthy with Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux blends, and Syrah grape variety. The single-vineyard wines showcase the most exquisite and balanced wines from their estate vineyard as well as their partner heritage vineyards, each with its own story to tell. From vine to bottle, they make these wines, adhering to the concept of farming first and with minimal interference, resulting in wines that speak to the terroir. The vineyards of Alta Orsa are all farmed in a sustainable manner, preferably using organic or regenerative farming techniques. The stories and personalities of California’s distinct North Coast AVAs are reflected in their appellation wines. In the vineyard, all the vintners pull up their boots, tuck their gloves in back pockets, and band together as a small, experienced, and enthusiastic crew to make great small-lot wines from historic vineyards that appreciate the feeling of the place. They value the painstaking task of sustaining these vineyards via raw yet meticulous handwork by all the men and women working in the field to bring the authenticity and quality of the wine. Alta Orsa is made up of estate and vineyard-designate wines that are meant to stand out as exquisite, age-worthy representations of the region.
