Producer Information
Terrabianca is a Tuscan wine estate situated in the region’s iconic Chianti Classico subregion. The wine porfolio is devoted to red grape varieties, namely Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Canaiolo, but Chardonnay, Malvasia and Trebbiano Toscano are also present. The estate was first mentioned in historical documents from 1085. Its current incarnation, however, began in 1988 with the arrival of winemaker Roberto Guldener. He initially produced wines using the Fattoria Terrabianca estate’s original vines, but started to develop with new plantings in 1989. These vines were planted on south and southeast-facing slopes consisting of layers of chalk, sand and clay. Altitudes between 820 to 1640 feet (250 to 500m) above sea level create ideal microclimates for viticulture. Terrabianca launched its wine portfolio with Campaccio, a Toscana IGT Sangiovese-based blend with approximately 30 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, depending on the vintage. It is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in a French oak barrels prior to bottling. Over the years, Terrabianca has continued to focus its winemaking on the production of red Toscana IGT wines and also owns a second property in Massa Marittima, southern Tuscany, called Il Tesoro. The 106ha (262 acre) estate is planted to Tuscany’s emblematic grape variety, Sangiovese, as well as several plots of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
