Producer Information
J. Moreau & Fils is a wine producer and négoce firm in the Chablis wine region of northwestern Burgundy. Established in 1814, it is known for its three grand cru wines from the Vaudésir, Valmur and Les Clos climats, as well as several premier crus from parcels in Mont de Milieu, Vaucoupin, Fourchaume, Montmains and Vaillons. Like many wineries in the area it also produces a standard Chablis and Petit Chablis. The company operates through a series of contracts with growers and winemakers in the region. The winemaking at the J. Moreau & Fils cellar in Chablis is overseen by Chablis native Lucie Depuydt. The village wines age for six to eight months in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The premier and grand cru wines are aged for 10-14 months, with some partly fermented and aged in oak barrels. The estate’s signature grape variety is Chardonnay, but J. Moreau & Fils also works in partnership with a number of winegrowers to cultivate a range of other grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Aligoté, Gamay, Merlot, Syrah, Cinsaut and Grenache. These vineyards collectively cover an area of 200 hectares (494 acres) that span more than 300 plots in numerous regions and appellations including Pouilly-Fuissé, Sancerre, Vouvray, Bourgogne and IGP Pays d’Oc. Since 1998, J. Moreau & Fils has been part of the Boisset group (also known as Boisset La Famille des Grands Vins), based in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
