Reviews:
- Tyson Stelzer: 2018 is set to go down amongst the greats, a seamless and thrilling union of fragrance, energy, polish and poise, sealed with the ultimate line and length. Breathtaking.
- Wine Front: A firm and silky-tannined red that has such polish, richness and beauty. Lots of spice and fruit-tea character, as well as plums and berries.
Producer Information
Yarra Yering is an Australian wine producer, named after its location within the Yarra Valley in the state of Victoria. It was established in 1969 by Dr Bailey Carrodus, and today is one of the oldest producers of the Yarra Valley. Dr Carrodus was the first to thoroughly explore the potential for viticulture in the Yarra Valley wine region. He saw potential in the terroir for wine production decades prior to any sign of commercialisation in the valley. This entrepreneurial spirit translated into the winery with Dr Carrodus inventing a “tea chest” fermenters which are stainless steel lined wooden chests that hold just the right amount of fermenting grapes for the basket press. These fermenters are still utilized in the winery today. The more modern winemaking techniques employed by Yarra Yering today include the use of French oak for barrel aging as well as for malolactic fermentation. Throughout the primary fermentation, red wines are plunged by hand to encourage the gentle extraction of tannins. The Dry Red No.1 and Dry Red No.2 were produced in the first vintage from Yarra Yering and remain as the flagship duo of the wine portfolio. No.1 is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend whilst No.2 is primarily Shiraz that is complimented with tiny amounts of Mataro and Viognier, depending on the vintage.
