Ripe and juicy, this red reveals plum, cherry, earth, tobacco and menthol aromas and flavors. Well-structured, delivering dense, dusty tannins and ample fruit to match, with a long, complex finish.
Reviews:
- Wine Enthusiast: The nose is fruity and fizzy, like cherry cola, with roots and mixed herbs bringing a welcome savory element. The palate is sweet and juicy with cherries, but balance comes from an undertone of dark chocolate, before the nose’s lightly medicinal quality emerges again. Acidity positively fizzes around powerful tannins.
- James Suckling: Intense aromas of black cherries, lavender and spice, such as nutmeg. Some sandalwood and bark, too. Full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and tannins for the vintage. Rather chewy, suggesting that additional bottle age is needed.
Producer Information
Sassetti Livio Pertimali is an Italian wine producer based in Montalcino, Tuscany, particularly known for its Brunello wines. Livio Sassetti was one of the founders of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. The business has remained family owned and operated for three generations. The Podere Pertimali has 16 hectares (40 acres) of vineyards on the Montosoli hill, north of Montalcino. Sassetti makes produces three Brunellos: a generic wine and a Riserva, plus a Rosso di Montalcino. As well as the more traditional wines, there is an IGT Toscana wine, Fili di Seta, which is a Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon blend. In 1999, the family purchased the La Querciolina property within the Montecucco DOC on the Tuscan coast. Sassetti Livio Pertimali produces a varietal Sangiovese from that appellation, as well as a Maremma Toscana red wine named Istriciaia, a blend of Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo. In addition, Sassetti’s portfolio includes a Prosecco Superiore Brut and a Prosecco Rosé.
