Reviews:
- Allen Meadows: The nose is elegant, racy and offers a beautiful power as well as a very beautiful finesse of the grain. It reveals notes of blackberry, plum and small notes of crunchy wild strawberry associated with touches of small blue fruits as well as hints of Cuben pepper.
- Vinous: Blackberry, raspberry and white pepper scents begin to appear, followed later by a splash of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and well-judged acidity.
Producer Information
Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini (formerly Domaine Heresztyn) is a wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy’s Côte d’Or heartland. The domaine produces a range of predominanly Pinot Noir-based red wines across a number of quality levels from basic Bourgogne to premier and grand cru – all from local and neighboring appellations. The domaine was established over the 1930, 40s and 50s by Polish immigrant and vineyard worker Jan/Jean Heresztyn. For many years known as Domaine Heresztyn, the estate name changed in 2012, becoming Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini, and is run by Jean Heresztyn’s granddaughter Florence and her partner Simon Mazzini. The estate boasts 5.5 hectares (13 acres) of vineyard holdings across the appellations of Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Chambolle-Musigny. Among these, the domaine has plots in the Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru as well as a number of Gevrey-Chambertin premiers crus, including Les Champonnets and Les Goulots, and the Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes site. The majority of labels cover Gevrey, however, with several villages-level releases including the Vieilles Vignes and Clos Village labels. A village-level Chambolle-Musigny is also produced from the Aux Echanges and Les Bas Doix climats, just below (and to the east of) the strip of premier cru vineyards below Chambolle.
