Producer Information
Cardinale Estate is a premium-wine producer located in the Oakville sub-region of Napa Valley. The estate is most famous for its proprietary red wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot sourced from AVAs around the area, including from Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain. The Cardinale blend is created from two key estate vineyards – Veeder Park vineyard in Mount Veeder and Keyes vineyard in Howell Mountain. The Veeder Park vineyard, on the southwestern edge of the Napa Valley, is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. Here, a 1800 feet (550 meter) altitude and gravelly loam soils create perfect terroir for viticulture. Depending on the vintage, it contributes approximate 30-percent of the final blend. The Keyes vineyard, in comparison, is located 1700 feet (520 meters) above sea level on the northeastern slopes of the Napa Valley. It covers 28 hectares (68 acres) and is planted on white and red volcanic rocky loam soils. Keyes vineyard is planted to both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that together contribute approximately 40-percent of the grapes used in the Cardinale blend. The remaining grapes are harvested from vineyards in Spring Mountain, Diamond Mountain, St Helena, Oakville and Stags Leap District. A basket-press is used for the soft extraction of tannins after fermentation with native yeasts. French oak is sourced for barrel-aging. The estate is a part of the Jackson Family Wines portfolio.
