Producer Information
Borthwick Estate is a New Zealand wine producer of the Wairarapa of the country’s North Island. As well as producing a collection of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the property also operates as a cattle and sheep station. The estate has 27 hectares (66 acres) of vines planted alongside the Ruamahunga River in Gladstone. Here, stony and free-draining alluvial soils provide the perfect degree of stress to the vines to produce grapes with concentrated flavor compounds. The proximity to the river also helps to moderate temperatures; this region of New Zealand is prone to spring-time frosts. The flagship of the portfolio is a duo of varietal Pinot Noir wines: The Right Hand and The Left Hand representing the different personalities of the winemaking team both in the winery and the vineyard. Other notable wines include the Paddy Borthwick Sauvignon Blanc and the Paper Road CPR – a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gros and Riesling.
