Reviews:
- Jeb Dunnuck: The 2017 Chardonnay Platt Vineyard is one of the more intense, powerful wines and is certainly one of my favorites in the lineup. Exotic orange blossom, orchard fruits, charcoal, and white flower notes give way to a medium-bodied, racy, vibrant Chardonnay that has good concentration and depth as well as length. This is classic Sonoma Coast Chardonnay!
- Vinous: The 2017 Chardonnay Platt Vineyard is one of the silkier, prettier wines in the range. Citrus peel, dried pear, dried flowers and apple are nicely laced together, with pretty saline notes that add freshness. Although the Platt tastes like the other wines in this lineup, it has a bit more kick, energy and class.
Producer Information
Failla Wines is a Californian wine producer, located in Sonoma County. It produces a range of wines made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah from some of California’s coolest-climate winegrowing regions, including the Sonoma Coast, Anderson Valley and Russian River Valley. The estate’s first vintage in 1998 was released as Failla-Jordan, taking its name from owners Ehren Jordan and Anne-Marie Failla. Jordan and Failla purchased vineyard land in Cazadero in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, and planted the site initially to Chardonnay and Syrah, eventually adding Pinot Noir. Today, the organically farmed site spans around 6 hectares (14 acres) and includes steep hillside vineyards composed of rocky soils. On top of the estate vineyards, Failla sources fruit from top grape growers in some of Sonoma’s most famous AVAs, as well as from Napa Valley. The flagship wine of the portfolio is the Hirsch Pinot Noir, sourced from the Sonoma Coast. Failla’s winemaking facilities and tasting room are located in the Napa Valley. Vinification methods vary each vintage – the winery is known to use cement eggs, alongside French oak barrels and stainless steel vats.
