Producer Information

Azienda Agricola Collemattoni is a Tuscan wine producer based in Montalcino, owned and run by the Bucci family. The estate is best known for its Brunello di Montalcino. Azienda Agricola Collemattoni makes two expressions of Brunello from Sangiovese Grosso. The “normale” is aged in 3200-liter (845 US gallon) Slavonian oak casks for 30 months. The Riserva Vigna Fontelontano is sourced from a single vineyard which was planted in 1984. The wine is aged in 500-liter French oak barrels for 36 months and then spends an additional 18 months aging in the bottle. The Rosso di Montalcino sees 12 months in large casks. The Adone Toscana IGT is a blend of Sangiovese and a little Merlot. A rosato is made in stainless steel, also from Sangiovese. The estate comprises 11 hectares (27 acres) of vines divided into five separate vineyard plots – Collemattoni, Fontelontano, Sesta, Cava and Orcia. These vineyards lie at altitudes of between 350 and 420 meters (1148-1378ft) above sea level. Sangiovese Grosso dominates, planted on slopes of sandy clay and marl. Harvest is carried out by hand and the grapes destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. In the cellar, the wines are aged in a combination of Slavonian oak barrels and French oak tonneaux. In 2012, Azienda Agricola Collemattoni became an organically certified estate. It has also taken several steps to reduce its impact on the environment with the installation of a biomass heating system as well as solar panels.
