Producer Information
Azienda Agricola Schiavenza is a wine producer in the Barolo region of Piedmont, northwest Italy, founded in the famed village of Serralunga d’Alba in 1956. Schiavenza makes a range of Barolo wines, including several single-vineyard “cru” labels as well as a range of other regional wines covering Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Barbaresco and a Barolo Chinato. The estate cultivates approximately eight hectares (20 acres) of vineyards in and around Serralunga d’Alba, with roughly two hectares (five acres) also situated in the village of Monforte d’Alba. These are planted to the region’s most famous grape varieties, including Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera and Grignolino. The vineyards in the village of Serralunga d’Alba are planted on loam-rich, calcareous slopes that enjoy southeast and west exposures. These vineyards are dominated by plantings of Nebbiolo and Dolcetto grapes, while Barbera is cultivated in the estate’s sandier Monforte d’Alba vineyards. Barolo is by far the most prevalent wine in Schiavenza’s portfolio. There is a standard expression, and three single-vineyard wines: Broglio, Prapò and Bricco Cerretta. These Barolo wines are produced as Riservas in the best vintage years.
