Producer Information
Alpha Estate is a wine producer located in northwestern Greece in the Amyndeon region. The estate was founded in 1997 by Makis Mavridis, an experienced viticulturalist, and chemist/oenologist Angelos Iatridis. The winery cultivates both indigenous and international varieties and is best known for its production of Xinomavro, competing in style with the better known Naoussa region. The 75 hectare (185 acre) single block estate was planted in the 1990s and is situated on a plateau that reaches up to 2330ft (710m) above sea level. The soil is composed of sandy clay and is planted to Xinomavro, Mavrodaphne, Syrah, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Tannat, Montepulciano, Negroamaro, Barbera, Malagousia, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer. Alpha Estate produces a range of varietal and blended wines, highlighting both native and international varieties. Alpha Estate Red is the winery’s flagship and is a popular blend of Syrah, Merlot, and ungrafted Xinomavro.
