Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: As this was bottled only a week before I tasted it, I suspect this rating will prove to be conservative once a few months have passed. The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin is another prodigious version of this wine. How many wines in this world can be so huge yet so lacking the feeling of weight? There’s plenty of layered spice but also a core of raspberries; rich tannins, yet no real astringency; and a long finish without any apparent heat. Wow!
- James Suckling: A well-endowed wine, dripping with cassis, plum sauce and raspberry puree flavors supported by notes of warmed apple wood, black tea and melted licorice. Dense yet remarkably polished, and almost supple in feel, with a bolt of warm earth scoring the very end of the finish
Producer Information
Château de Beaucastel is a magical place, surrounded by hills planted with vines, hundred-year-old olive trees and truffle oaks. Here nature is blooming, liberated and at ease. Ancient vines with knotted roots are nurtured in the traditional “gobelet” style in the soil typical of the region, laden with large round pebbles (galets). When the Mistral blows – the legendary wind from the Alps – it whistles down the Rhône Valley cooling the vines and revealing aromas of Garrigue. It has the Southern accent of those who live here at one with the Mediterranean climate. It’s on these ancestral soils, supporting the 13 grape varieties of Châteauneuf du Pape, that each new vintage of Beaucastel is born.
