Producer Information

Rutini is a leading wine producer in Mendoza, Argentina. A wide variety of grape varieties are grown, though the focus is on Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. It was founded in 1885 in Coquimbito by Felipe Rutini, an Italian immigrant from a winemaking family and one of Mendoza’s greating founding winemakers. It is one of the pioneer wine businesses in the region and, in 1925, it was the first winery to plant vines in the Uco Valley. Felipe Rutini built the first winery, called La Rural, in 1885. The arrival of the railway to Maipú province in the same year gave great impetus to the early wine industry, which had previously relied on horse and cart. He began to focus on making export quality fine wine as early as 1910, importing the latest equipment from Europe, and beginning to seek wider markets. Felipe Rutini died at only 53. His family continued to expand the business, spearheading vinification in the Uco Valley. Mariano di Paola joined the business in 1994. He also served for several decades as a professor at Don Bosco University, and has been recognized as one of the top 30 winemakers in the world by Decanter magazine.
