Superb 2012 vintage French red wine from Château La Tour de By, made with a combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Consistently one of the best value names in Bordeaux, La Tour de By are highly accomplished at creating well-structured wines that will cellar handsomely, but at eight years old this is perfect for drinking now too, especially with a rib of beef.
Reviews:
- Wine Enthusiast: The Pagès family, which has a group of estates in the Médoc, has produced a rich, concentrated wine at this château. While packed with black currant fruit from the 60% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, it also has a firm layer of tannins that will allow it to age. Drink from 2021.
Producer Information
Château La Tour de By is a Bordeaux wine estate in the left-bank Médoc appellation. It makes Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant reds blended with Merlot and Petit Verdot. The estate’s history dates back to the 18th Century when it was first known as La Roque de By. The château itself was built in 1876. La Tour de By takes its modern name from a prominent stone tower on the property and its location in the de By region of the Médoc. The property covers 94 hectares (232 acres) with roughly 74 hectares (183 acres) under vine. The vineyard is given to 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 35 percent Merlot and 5 percent Petit Verdot: proportions reflected in the blend of the grand vin.Fermentation takes place in both wooden vats and temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks before an average aging period of 16 months in French oak barriques, of which 30 percent are new.
