Producer Information
Tolaini Societa Agricola is a Tuscan wine producer based in the Chianti Classico region. The estate was founded by Piero Luigi Tolaini in 1998 and today, produces an extensive range of varieties including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, as well as from the classic Tuscan variety Sangiovese. Piero Luigi Tolaini established the estate in partnership with famous consultant Michel Rolland. Tolaini has successfully built on this partnership to create a portfolio of red wines spearheaded by its flagship Picconero. This wine, a Bordeaux blend, is only produced in the best years. Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in 100 percent French oak barriques. Despite its location, Tolaini only makes one wine under the Chianti Classico DOCG, a Gran Selezione. This is sourced from the Montebello vineyard, and is made using only the highest-quality Sangiovese grapes in the best vintage years. The Montebello vineyard occupies lime and clay soils interspersed with a large proportion of gravel, and is farmed using organic viticultural practices. Tolaini Societa Agricola has constructed a cellar consisting of three tunnels built deep in the earth. The barrels stored here are sourced from a selection of French coopers and are toasted to varying degrees in order to match the distinctive characteristics of each wine in the estate’s portfolio.
