The wines of Chateau Hosanna show a good intense color, with a normal evolution; on the nose, one finds a vivid bouquet with floral and fruits scents; on the palate, a good harmony and balance with fresh tannins ending on an aromatic and very pleasant finale. These are charming and typically Bordeaux wines in their complexity and finesse.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: This is the finest Hosanna that proprietor Christian Moueix has yet made, produced from a 15-acre parcel that usually yields about 1,500 cases. The 2009, a prodigious blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, offers up an exquisite aromatic concoction of blackberries, plums, Asian soy, forest floor, truffles and graphite. Along with its stunning concentration, remarkably thick, juicy mid-palate and unbelievable complexity, its viscosity and opulence take this wine to new heights. This extraordinary wine is one of the superstars of 2009 and one to enjoy over the next three decades.
- James Suckling: There is a lovely plush feel here, with roasted tobacco and fig notes carried by velvety tannins. Deceptively dense, with darker currant and anise notes blossoming through the finish, which still manages to stay supple and rounded. This steadily opens in the glass.
Producer Information
Château Hosanna is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Pomerol appellation. It was created in 1999 when Château Certan Giraud was purchased by established Bordeaux négociant Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. One part was renamed Hosanna, with the other two hectares (five acres) becoming Château Certan Marzelle. The property faces Pétrus (also part of the Moueix stable) and lies between Lafleur and Vieux Château Certan. There are 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of vines at Hosanna, on soils made up of red gravel with layers of clay and some sand (the famed, iron-based “crasse de fer” soils of the appellation). The vineyard is planted with 70 percent Merlot and a relatively high 30 percent Cabernet Franc. The large component of the latter in the wine leads to Hosanna’s reputation as a more delicate counterpart to Pétrus.
