Producer Information

Tenuta San Guido is a legendary Italian wine producer located in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, widely recognized for pioneering the “Super Tuscan” movement. Founded by Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who arrived at the estate in the 1930s, the winery was born out of a desire to create a Bordeaux-style wine in Italy. Mario believed that the gravelly soils of his coastal estate, combined with a unique Mediterranean climate, were perfectly suited for Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which he planted in the 1940s despite conventional Italian practices. Today, the expansive 2,500-hectare estate—which includes a renowned thoroughbred horse farm and a wildlife refuge—remains a benchmark for quality in Italian viticulture. Tenuta San Guido Tenuta San Guido +5 The estate’s flagship wine, Sassicaia, was originally intended only for private family consumption, but after refining the production process, it was commercially released with the 1968 vintage, instantly redefining Italian winemaking. In addition to the iconic Sassicaia, the estate produces two other wines: Guidalberto, introduced in 2000, and Le Difese, providing earlier-drinking alternatives that still reflect the elegance and expertise of the Tenuta San Guido team. Best of Wines Best of Wines +4 Currently managed by the family’s third generation, with Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta continuing his father’s legacy, Tenuta San Guido remains focused on producing wines of great structure, complexity, and longevity. The winemaking process involves manual harvesting, fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and aging in fine French oak barrels. Despite its immense prestige and status as the first Italian estate to have a dedicated DOC, the estate retains a commitment to sustainable farming, maintaining a balance between agriculture and the natural coastal
