Reviews:

  • Vinous: The 1979 is fabulous, with scents of dried cherry, iron, underbrush, mint, tobacco and menthol gracing a lithe, mid-weight frame. Absolutely impeccable in its balance, the 1979 has aged beautifully.

Producer Information

Originally created in 1873, the Inglenook estate was founded by William C. Watson. After planting 40 acres of vines on the property, Watson’s dream of opening a resort came to a halt when Gustave Niebaum purchased the estate from him in 1879. It wasn’t until 1975 that filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola purchased the estate and began making premium Napa varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Zinfandel, and was forced to name it Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery since the purchase did not include the rights to the name Inglenook. Their flagship Bordeaux blend, Rubicon, was first released during the 1985 vintage, but it was not until 2011 that Francis Ford Coppola finally obtained the original name of the estate- Inglenook. Today, Inglenook continues to produce a wide range of red and white wines from different plots on their 2,005 acres of land throughout the valued Napa Valley.
