Producer Information
Azienda Agricola Veglio Mauro is an Italian wine estate with vineyards spanning La Morra and Monforte d’Alba in Piedmont. The estate is particularly known for its Barolo wines created from four “cru” vineyards, but it also makes a range of Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba and Dolcetto d’Alba wines. Angelo Veglio founded the estate in the 1960s on the purchase of a single hectare (3 acre) of vineyard in Gattera. Two decades later and this hectarage was expanded with the purchase of 5ha (12 acres) of vineyards in Annunziata. Mauro and Daniela Veglio took over the reins of Azienda Agricola Veglio Mauro in the latter part of the 1980s, acquiring further vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, Castiglione-Falleto, in 1996. Today, Azienda Agricola Veglio Mauro cultivates a total of 14ha (35 acres) of vineyards planted to Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. The most important of these vineyards are the estate’s prized crus – Arborina, Gattera, Rocche dell’Annunziata and Castelletto – that form the basis of its four single-vineyard Barolo wines. These vineyard plots are typically planted on south-facing slopes at elevations between 820 and 984 feet (250 and 300 meters). Azienda Agricola Veglio Mauro vinifies its portfolio of Barolo wines in stainless steel tanks for approximately 20 days, before barrel-aging for a further two years in 20 percent new oak. All wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
